Best Time to Go to Sandals: When Should You Book Your Caribbean Vacation?

Peak season, my favorite shoulder month, the honest trade-off of June through November, and the months I'd think twice about.

One of the questions I get constantly is:

“When is the best time to go to Sandals?”

And I usually give a slightly different answer than people expect.

There isn't one perfect month.

There is a best time for weather, a best time for price, a best time for fewer crowds, and a best time for a specific type of traveler.

Once you understand those differences, choosing your dates becomes much easier.

December Through April: The Classic Peak Season

If your priority is maximizing the odds of warm, relatively dry Caribbean weather, mid-December through April is generally the period I would look at first.

Sandals itself identifies mid-December through April as peak season and notes that these months generally bring some of the best Caribbean weather.

This is particularly attractive for travelers escaping winter.

  • January?Popular.
  • February?Popular.
  • March?Very popular.
  • April?Still a strong option.

The downside is simple:

Everyone else knows this too.

Prices can be higher, popular room categories can sell earlier, and resorts can feel busier.

May: My Favorite Shoulder-Season Option

If a couple tells me:

“We want good weather, but we don't necessarily want to pay peak-season pricing,”

May is a month I like to discuss.

You're moving away from the traditional peak period, but you're not yet deep into the wetter part of the year.

It can offer a nice balance between price, availability and overall experience.

It's not weather-proof — no Caribbean month is — but it can be a smart compromise.

June Through November: Better Value, More Weather Uncertainty

Sandals currently promotes June through November as its Savings Season, when travelers can often find lower rates than during peak season.

This is where I think travelers sometimes make a mistake.

They hear “hurricane season” and assume:

“It will rain every day.”

That's not how the Caribbean works.

You can have beautiful stretches of weather during these months.

You can also have tropical showers that appear, pass and disappear.

But the risk of tropical weather is higher, particularly later in the season.

So I don't tell clients to avoid June through November automatically.

I tell them to understand the trade-off.

Lower rates and potentially fewer crowds in exchange for greater weather uncertainty.

What About Hurricane Season?

The Atlantic hurricane season officially runs from June 1 through November 30.

That doesn't mean every Sandals destination will experience a hurricane during those months.

It means tropical systems are more likely during that period.

And for 2026, Sandals is currently offering a limited weather protection plan for eligible travel during August through October, included at no additional charge under its Vacation Promise. Restrictions apply.

That is useful, but it should not be confused with traditional travel insurance.

I still recommend that travelers understand what their insurance covers before booking a Caribbean vacation during hurricane season.

The Months I Personally Prefer

If I were planning a Sandals trip for myself and wanted the best balance, I'd look closely at:

  • Late January through April for weather.
  • May for shoulder-season balance.
  • Early December for a strong combination of weather and holiday timing.

For budget-conscious travelers, I'd also consider June or early November, understanding the weather trade-off.

The Months I'd Think Twice About

I'm not going to tell you that there is a month when you absolutely shouldn't visit Sandals.

That's too simplistic.

Instead, I'd be more cautious with travelers who have a very low tolerance for weather uncertainty when booking August through October.

If you're spending $8,000 on a once-in-a-lifetime honeymoon and the idea of tropical weather anxiety will ruin the trip for you, paying more for a higher-confidence travel window may be worth it.

My Advice as a Sandals Expert

Don't ask:

“What is the cheapest month to go to Sandals?”

Ask:

“What combination of weather, price and availability makes the most sense for us?”

That's a much better way to plan.

Have a window in mind?

Compare what the same resort costs across your possible dates. The rate is the same one you would get booking direct.

Common questions

When is the best time to go to Sandals?

There isn't one perfect month. For weather, mid-December through April, which Sandals identifies as peak season. For a balance of price and weather, May. For value, June through November, Sandals' Savings Season, in exchange for more weather uncertainty.

Should you avoid Sandals during hurricane season?

Not automatically. The Atlantic season runs from June 1 to November 30 and tropical systems are more likely then, but beautiful stretches of weather are common too. The trade-off is lower rates and potentially fewer crowds for greater weather uncertainty, especially later in the season.

Does Sandals offer weather protection?

For 2026, Sandals offers a limited weather protection plan for eligible travel from August through October, included at no extra charge under its Vacation Promise, with restrictions. It is not the same as travel insurance.
